Lantern creates brand identity for a celebration of the best in British contemporary jazz

We're proud to reveal the new identity for this year's Herts Jazz Festival. The festival, which receives support from Arts Council England, takes place at the Hawthorne Theatre in Welwyn Garden City from 13th – 15th October 2017.

According to Clark Tracey, the festival's director, "Jazz lovers know that they will see the very best of British jazz in a comfortable and friendly venue where the focus is completely on the music and its enjoyment." The festival retains its popular format, with free sessions in the theatre foyer during lunch and dinner intervals and after hours alongside the main concerts in the auditorium.

Originally crafted by Lantern's Director, Ryan Tym, in 2012, the identity has been revised for 2017 with a cleaner, simpler style. Each of the character forms reference the shape and structure of jazz instruments and classic jazz lettering with an abstracted, contemporary twist. Meanwhile, the black, gold and white palette provides a modern, rich feeling to the wordmark.

The new look will be rolling out across advertising, event programmes, t-shirts and banners prior to this year's event, with the line-up announced very soon. We're looking forward to checking out the festival in October!
